Discussion Zero: An Artistic Take on Everything

Greetings, internet.

I've decided that I want to start recording my thoughts on various topics that I find myself reflecting on in quiet times. I often find myself pondering the nature of art as an abstract concept, both as an expression of emotion or statement (i.e. the fine arts) and as a philosophical topic. A blog may not exactly be the most original medium for broadcasting my thoughts, but I figure it should do the job fairly effectively. I'm not aiming to gain massive amounts of traffic or start drama wars within the cloud of the internet, but the alternative, I figure, is simply writing my thoughts and storing them in a journal or hard drive and never seen again. If I'm going to be recording my ponderings, I suppose the least I can do is put it out into the public realm. Perhaps someone will find it interesting, or even inspiring.

As for the actual content of the blog, it will most likely consist largely of loosely composed ramblings about art or philosophy or politics or what have you. These threads will almost certainly be simple ideas that came to mind while on a long drive which were allowed to bloom (or whither) in my mind. (Wow, that sounded narcissistic.)

I think I just summed up most blogs in general.

Well, now that I've established that my blog will probably largely uninteresting and poorly written and otherwise completely unoriginal, let me state a bit about myself. As I'm sure to say at least one thing controversial in the course of these ramblings, I ask you to please consider the source. If I say something that offends you, remember who it's coming from and that it's probably not worth getting worked up about it. (That said, if you do feel the need to get worked up about it, feel free -- undoubtedly, you'll say a ton of stupid things and it'll be hilarious. Or, if you say a ton of intelligent things, then it'll be interesting. Or, if you're a troll, then troll harder.)

I'm an art student. I have graduated high school and, after this last year of work, will be attending post-secondary school in the fall. (Yes, I'm young. Like I said, consider the source.) While I've dabbled in most forms of fine arts -- music, drama, and various forms of visual arts -- currently I'm focusing on 3D computer graphics as a trade. I also paint and draw, and occasionally (when the opportunity arises) edit and produce movies. Usually student project films, nothing too intense. While I can't say I listen to a lot of music, I can easily declare that I listen to music a lot. Currently, I'm working away from my home and am on the road constantly.

I do not intend on posting my personal art here. This is not a "Look-at-me-I'm-so-great-worship-my-art" type blog. I may, if I get one set up, post a link to a portfolio, but that'll be the end of it. I'm not here to talk about my art and how awesome it is (it's not).

I'll probably post my first real blog entry within the next few days. There's a few topics I'd like to discuss, but I think I know what I want my first one to be: A discussion on the mindset of the artist. What I mean by that will be explained in discussion one.

Today's words of wisdom:

Just like my thoughts don't do much good just running around in my head, neither do your ideas inspire others when unvoiced. I hope, should this blog garner a few regular readers, that you will participate in discussing the topic at hand. Perhaps, should a few people begin to read this blog, we can all help to inspire and become inspired.
